It wasn’t perfect, but Bandai Namco’s reboot of Splatterhouse back in 2010 was a guilty pleasure for many fans. Sadly, the game’s reception at retail and with reviewers in general put the kibosh on any chance of a sequel. Leave it to the fans to once again pick up the slack, as the developers behind the bullet hell shooter Good Knight are in the process of developing their own spiritual successor to Splatterhouse with Carnage Mansion.
Per Splatterhouse fansite West Mansion, Carnage Mansion is going the route of Splatterhouse 3, being more of a brawler than a sidescroller. There’s not a heck of a lot to go on at the moment, but the devs have released a couple of screenshots and concept art, as well as a development video that you can view below.
Much like the 2010 reboot, the main character (wearing a mask that looks like an amalgamation of various masks from the 2010 game) has that exaggerated hulk look, which goes well with punching the crap out of enemies. And rather than saving the girl this time, you apparently have her accompanying you on your shoulders.
The team plans on releasing the game to Steam, so hopefully Bandai Namco play nice and let the project continue.
Big thanks to Time Extension for spotting this one.
