‘Fear Street: Prom Queen’ Rated “R” for Strong Bloody Violence and Gore

Netflix is headed back to Shadyside with Fear Street: Prom Queen later this year, the next installment in their growing Fear Street Cinematic Universe. The movies are of course based on R.L. Stine’s classic teen horror novels, and Stine recently let us know that Prom Queen isn’t the only new Fear Street movie in the works. According to Stine, three more are on the way!

But first up is Fear Street: Prom Queen, which doesn’t yet have a trailer or premiere date. The film has been officially rated by the MPA this week, however, landing a hard “R” rating.

Fear Street: Prom Queen is rated “R” for…

“Strong bloody violence and gore, teen drug use, language and some sexual references.”

With the rating turned in, a trailer is likely coming soon. Stay tuned.

Fear Street: Prom Queen takes place between the events of Fear Street: 1994 and Fear Street: 1978. Matt Palmer (Calibreis directing the franchise’s brand new fourth installment.

In the upcoming horror movie, “Welcome back to Shadyside. In this next installment of the blood-soaked Fear Street franchise, prom season at Shadyside High is underway, and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when a gutsy outsider is unexpectedly nominated to the court, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ’88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night.”

The ensemble cast includes India Fowler (The Nevers, Insomnia), Suzanna Son (Red Rocket, The Idol), Fina Strazza (Paper Girls, Above the Shadows), David Iacono (The Summer I Turned Pretty, Cinnamon), Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Chris Klein (Sweet Magnolias, American Pie), with Lili Taylor (Outer Range, Manhunt) and Katherine Waterston (The End We Start From, Perry Mason). Matt Palmer (Calibre) is directing the franchise’s fourth installment.

The Prom Queen was book #15 in R.L. Stine’s teen franchise, originally published on March 1, 1992. If you’d like to read it before the movie comes out, you can always find copies on eBay.
