Sony has apparently decided to flex their copyright muscles regarding fan-made content for Bloodborne. A few weeks back, Sony issued a DMCA takedown notice for noted modder Lance McDonald‘s freely-available 60fps patch for Bloodborne, and has now come for developer Lilith Walther‘s Bloodborne PSX demake, which has now been removed from itch.io.
Per The Verge, Sony Interactive Entertainment, or more accurately, MarkScan on behalf of Sony, recently issued a takedown notice on Bloodborne PSX, alleging it to be “digital piracy”. The same MarkScan had issued a similar notice to McDonald in regards to his fanmade patch, which had existed since 2021.
This is particularly curious, since Walther had run into a similar issue with Sony regarding Nightmare Kart, which was originally known as Bloodborne Kart before Sony requested that all references to Bloodborne be stripped from the game.
Speaking of Nightmare Kart, Walther recently announced that the game would be getting some free DLC in the near future in “The Old Karts.” The DLC, which is listed as “coming soon”, would add a new mini campaign, new racers and karts, as well as new tracks, power-ups and game modes.
Nightmare Kart is available for free on itch.io and Steam.
