Migami Games with publishers PQube and PixelHeart are bringing their own brand of Metroidvania to the masses with Chronicles of the Wolf. Coming to PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch this summer, there will also be a physical version for the Switch and PlayStation 5.
Chronicles of the Wolf, which draws heavily from the 2D Castlevania games (even including Robert Belgrade, who voiced Alucard in Symphony of the Night, as the narrator), sees players step into the boots of Mateo Lombardo, the last apprentice of the Rose Cross Order, as he embarks on his quest to hunt the legendary Beast of Gévaudan. That involves exploring vast, interconnected castles, battle brutal bosses, and plenty of secrets lurking in the shadows.
As mentioned, the game draws inspiration from Konami’s classic series. In fact, Migami Games are the creators of the fangame, Castlevania: The Lecarde Chronicles and its sequel, and the medieval shooter, Wallachia: Reign of Dracula.
Like Wallachia, Chronicles of the Wolf leans on real history as inspiration, this time with The Beast of Gévaudan. The legend tells of a man-eating animal or animals that terrorized the former province of Gévaudan in the Margeride Mountains of France between 1764 and 1767.
And if you want more Castlevania ties, you’ve got it. Jeffrey Montoya (who composed music for Castlevania: The Lecarde Chronicles) will serve as the composer for Chronicles of the Wolf, with guest music from Oscar Araujo (the composer of the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series). Even Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night gets in on the fun, as Bloodless the vampire will make an appearance in the game.
