DinoBoss is still plugging away on development for their roguelite twin stick shooter Demon Spore. The developer recently announced a new co-op demo for Demon Spore that allows you and up to 3 of your friends to team up via Steam Remote Play Together, or you can go it alone.
Taking inspiration from Chuck Russell‘s 1988 version of The Blob and other 80s monster movies, Demon Spore puts you in a genetic research laboratory, where a tissue replication experiment has gone wrong. The resulting accident has given birth to a viral mass of cells that is spreading out of control and evolving into some otherworldly creature. You play as an unfortunate scientist trapped inside the room where this experiment is taking place, along with a handful of staff members. You’ll have to use your scientific experience to learn how the organism behaves, find it’s weaknesses and fight your way to safety.
That involves arming yourself with experimental weapons like the scalpel thrower or Tesla coil to fend off the creature. The Demon Spore demo challenges you to try to escape the lab with all 5 playable characters, as well as rescue the aforementioned survivors (though much like The Thing, the creature may be lurking inside your coworkers), and try to stop the spread of the relentless creature by locking down the facility on your way to the exit.
Demon Spore is slated for release on PC via Steam later this year.
