Solo dev Vladislav Lukyantsev has released their alpha demo for their upcoming cyberpunk horror title DREADCORE: Locked Unit (formerly known as Synthetic Souls). Along with the demo is a new gameplay trailer, which while brief and early, does give us a glimpse at the creepy potential for the game’s atmosphere.
The first episode in an anthology series of narrative-driven psychological horror experiences set in a shared cyberpunk universe, DREADCORE: Locked Unit takes place in the heart of the Middle Sectors. A routine maintenance request leads you into the abandoned basement of a decaying apartment complex. Reports of unexplained power fluctuations and signal interference have surfaced, all originating from a single, long-sealed storage unit. After unlocking the unit, you uncover a makeshift lab, corrupted data logs, and a consciousness trapped between life and oblivion. One that won’t let go so easily.
Locked Unit aims to deliver a 60-90 minute experience that blends environmental storytelling, immersive puzzles, and a growing sense of dread. The game, which is described as “slow-burning descent into existential terror,” gradually shifts from an eerie investigation into a full-blown nightmare, with elements of body horror, glitching realities, and ethical dilemmas. Seeing as it’s cyberpunk, the puzzles involve you solving circuits, decrypting corrupted data, and navigating surreal mindscapes.
Currently, DREADCORE: Locked Unit is aiming for a Q2 2025 release.
