Can true love really conquer all? When two people become lost in each other’s eyes, can they actually transcend the rest of the world? David Lynch puts this theory to the test in his 1990 film Wild at Heart by surrounding a swoon worthy couple with the elements of hell. Despite being mired in a dangerous world of murderous mothers, hired assassins, and petty criminals holding a grudge, these two wild lovebirds manage to hold onto each other and defend their connection against all odds.
Lula (Laura Dern) and Sailor (Nicolas Cage) are meant to be. Though separated for the last 22 months, they reunite in a stylish convertible and set out to explore the sun-bleached back roads of middle America. But the dreamy young couple encounters nothing but obstacles along the way.
Lula’s mother, Marietta Fortune (Diane Ladd), is dead set against the union and deploys numerous assassins to take out the young man before he can become her son-in-law. But can Lula’s devotion to Sailor withstand these attacks? And will there be unintended consequences to their nights of carefree bliss?
