Have you ever wondered what happens when your letter gets lost in the mail? Did you know there are dead letter investigators? Read the film’s full synopsis:
On a desolate, Midwestern county road, a bound man crawls towards a remote postal box, managing to slide a blood-stained plea-for-help message into the slot before a panicking figure closes in behind him. The note makes its way to the desk of Jasper, a seasoned ‘dead letter’ investigator at a 1980s midwestern post office. As he begins to piece together the letter’s origins, it leads him down a violent, unforeseen path to a kidnapped keyboard engineer and his eccentric business associate.

Dead Mail had its world premiere at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival, followed by a successful festival run that included Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness Section, Sitges Film Festival, and Brooklyn Horror Fest.
In her review of the film from SXSW 2024, Dread Central’s Mary Beth McAndrews wrote,
DeBoer and McConaghy take contemporary ideas about the 1980s and nostalgia and twist them into a neo-Fargo narrative about being in the wrong place and the wrong time, small-town violence, and trying to just find a friend. A strong script and nuanced performances make what could simply be silly into a strangely sad and shocking piece of genre-adjacent cinema. It’s lo-fi indie filmmaking at its finest, quirky, bizarre, and deeply engaging.
DeBoer and McConaghy wrote and directed the film, which stars Sterling Macer Jr., John Fleck, Susan Piver, Micki Jackson, Tomas Boykin, and Nick Heyman.
Zachary Weil and Brett Arndt produced the film, with Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Adam Goldworm, and Susan Priver serving as Executive Producers.
Dead Mail is one of the four films premiering on Shudder during their Halfway to Halloween celebration. It joins the 2025 roster alongside 825 Forest Road, Shadow of God, and Fréwaka. The streamer’s event will also include
