Patrick Dempsey was approached about reprising his Scream 3 role of Mark Kincaid in Scream 7 but will not appear in the film. So what happened?
“It just didn’t work out,” he told Variety. “We were dealing with the fires and everything that was going on and the schedule didn’t work out, unfortunately.”
In Scream 5, Neve Campbell‘s Sydney Prescott made reference to her husband as Mark, leading fans to believe she had married her Scream 3 love interest Kincaid. However, it was announced in January that Joel McHale was cast as her husband, Mark Evans.
In addition to Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley will return for the latest installment in the slasher saga.
McHale joins fellow franchise newcomers Isabel May, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Sam Rechner, Asa Germann, Anna Camp, Ethan Embry, and Mark Consuelos.
Kevin Williamson, writer of the original Scream as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4, is directing from a script by Guy Busick, who co-write Scream 5 and Scream VI.
Currently in production in Atlanta, Scream 7 hits theaters on February 27, 2026 from Paramount Pictures.
