Daedalic Entertainment and developer DALOAR originally announced a 2025 release for their first-person narrative-driven psychological horror game The Occultist last August. However, as these things go, that release date has now been bumped to 2026. DALOAR has offset the news of the delay with a new trailer for The Occultist that premiered at Nacon Connect 2025.
In The Occultist, players will step into the shoes of Alan Rebels as he embarks on a harrowing journey to the enigmatic island of Godstone, determined to uncover the truth behind his father’s mysterious disappearance. Equipped with his mystical pendulum, Alan must navigate the foggy streets and eerie buildings of Godstone, a place once home to a notorious cult known for its disturbing experiments and rituals.
Featuring music by composer Pepe Herrero, The Occultist sports touches of Survival Horror with tense exploration, atmospheric environments, and a “gripping, personal narrative.”
Key to the gameplay is Rebels’ pendulum, which offers five unique mechanics to interact with and manipulate the environment. You’ll need the pendulum’s powers in order to solve the various puzzles you’ll encounter, as well as you having to utilize stealth tactics to avoid drawing unwanted attention on your mission. Players will also encounter adversaries that make your investigation “a personal nightmare.”
The Occultist is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC via Steam.
