‘The Last Resort’ – Scholastic’s New Mystery Series Will Bring Ghosts to Life Using QR Codes

Kids will be able to talk to ghosts, crack the puzzles and solve the mystery in Scholastic’s upcoming mystery thriller series The Last Resort, detailed by People.com this morning.

The Last Resort series, which is “set to offer three books from three different acclaimed authors,” brings along with it a unique interactive element. QR codes will “give kids the chance to see ghosts rise from the pages of their books and ask them questions that give key details to the mysteries at hand,” the venture being described as “the next evolution of storytelling.”

Erin Entrada Kelly wrote the first book in Scholastic’s The Last Resort series, which will be going up for grabs on September 2, 2025. You can check out the book’s cover below.

In the first book, “12-year-old Lila has to spend her summer in Ohio at her late grandfather’s creepy Victorian Inn, where strange things keep happening. After Lila runs into her Grandpa Clem at his own funeral, he tells her he was murdered and that his inn is actually a portal between the land of the living and the realm of the dead. Now, she must stop evil spirits desperate to make their way back into the human world with the help of some friends.”

The second and third books in the series will follow in Spring 2026 and Fall 2026.
