Venezuelan Psychological Horror Title ‘Animas’ Announced for PC [Trailer]

Not to be confused with the  Laura Alvea and Jose Ortuño film of the same name, Apamate Studiohas announced Animas, a first-person psychological horror title set in a haunted house in the Venezuelan mountains. Coming to Steam later this year, Animas aims to reflect the team’s roots by featuring all of the voice acting in Latin American Spanish (with all in-game dialogues and texts in multiple languages, of course), as well as mixing in Venezuelan folklore.

Animas sees you arriving at the aforementioned house in the mountains, seeking the truth behind the Blanco family’s dark history. However, the house has other plans. Here, past and present collide, exposing sectarian rituals and choices that doomed generations.

“With Animas, we set two main goals,” said the developers. “First, to channel our prior artistic experience in film and animation into creating a game with a strong narrative and visual component. We leveraged our 3D modeling and animation expertise to build an immersive, unsettling atmosphere. Second, we wanted to deeply connect with our cultural roots. As Venezuelans, we felt motivated to contribute our perspective to the gaming industry – a field where we believe representation of our culture remains scarce.”

Players will explore a house “fractured” by time, where different eras collide. From a seemingly idyllic 1970s to a decadent present, each step unveils details of the past. Animas aims to weave psychological terror from ancient Venezuelan beliefs to modern urban legends. Adding to the oppressive atmosphere is the immersive 3D audio design, blurring the line between reality and nightmare.
