Developer Strange Scaffold has announced an April 22 release on Steam for their genre-bending “committing to the bit” title, Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3. Described as “an unholy cocktail of genres”, CRDM3 is match-3, survival horror, choice-driven narrative, RPG, and just plain weird.
This oddly-named game is a match-3 Survival Horror comedy RPG Metroidvania (or “matchroidvania”) that transports you to a mansion overrun with dinosaurs. And to add even more lunacy, goes the meta route with code-breaking bugs. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill creepy mansion; this is one stuck in a video game, and fully aware of it.
Discover the story of how, 20 years ago, the fictional, genre-fusion video game Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion was released and became a smash hit. Years later, the franchise returns to the spotlight when Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 is shown off and announced on gaming’s biggest stage. Meanwhile, a very confused protagonist, J.J. Hardwell, fights off glitching raptors and T-Rexes in what he soon realizes is a broken video game that he must save.
Combining razor-sharp game development satire, role-playing, and satisfying match-3 gameplay, Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 is a rightfully bizarre take on the way creations can take on a life of their own — and the bright futures the games industry fails to even try to explore.
