It was announced last year that master of horror Joe Dante (Gremlins, The ‘Burbs) would return to the director’s chair for a Little Shop of Horrors reboot titled Little Shop of Halloween Horrors.
Unfortunately, the project has been shelved indefinitely.
“At the moment, like so many things in town, nothing’s happening,” Dante tells The Direct. “And we always hope that will change, but it’s not the greatest time right now to [get] projects off the ground.”
Intended to jumpstart a new franchise, the reimagining was written by Charles S. Haas, who previously worked with Dante on Gremlins 2: The New Batch and Matinee.
The legendary Roger Corman, director of the original 1960 horror-comedy, was set to produce prior to his passing last May. Brad Krevoy (Dumb and Dumber, Kingpin) and Charles Cohen (Snack Shack) would also produce.
Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of a florist who discovered a strange plant with a craving for human flesh. As the plant grows, Seymour must feed it victims to keep it satisfied, leading to a series of darkly comedic and increasingly twisted events.
