Just in time for the 45th anniversary of John Carpenter’s The Fog, the Southampton Playhouse in Southampton, NY has announced that the 1980 horror classic will be kicking off the brand new theater’s “Horror on Hill Street” series in just a couple weeks!
The Fog will descend on the Southampton Playhouse on Thursday, April 17 at 7:30pm EST, and the special 45th anniversary event will feature veteran film journalist Anne Thompson.
What’s particularly exciting about the screening is that it’ll be the very first horror movie the SH Playhouse has screened since the theater’s opening earlier this year. The beautiful theater’s four screens include a state-of-the-art IMAX theater and 35mm projection, and The Fog is the first of many repertory horror screenings the Playhouse will be bringing to Long Island.
The theater previews, “Help kick off our very first Horror on Hill Street series with a classic of creepy filmmaking from genre maestro John Carpenter, who was recently inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Veteran film journalist Anne Thompson will join us before the film to discuss her early days as a unit publicist on the set of Carpenter’s atmospheric work.”
A small coastal town faces ominous forces after a mysterious cloudy mister engulfs their entire community in John Carpenter’s The Fog, which stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, Adrienne Barbeau, and Hal Holbrook. SH Playhouse calls the classic film “a masterful ghost story with a lot on its mind, including a dark past that gradually bubbles to the surface.”
“That conceit is also at the center of the new vampire epic Sinners, as The Fog will help set the stage for the upcoming IMAX release later in the week,” the Playhouse also previews.
Get tickets to the 4/17 screening of The Fog at the Southampton Playhouse now. The theater is in my neck of the woods here on Long Island, and I won’t be missing this one!
