A new image from I Know What You Did Last Summer, courtesy of Collider, teases the horrors inflicted in the slasher.
“This time, The Fisherman is a lot more brutal,” director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) tells the outlet.
“When Sony came to me and asked if I would be interested in taking on this IP, I said I would love to do this, but there are two things I would need you to let me do if we’re going to make this sequel together. They agreed to both. You’ll just have to see what those things are on July 18.”
Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their roles from the 1997 film alongside Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Madelyn Cline (“Outer Banks”), Sarah Pidgeon (“The Wilds”), Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid), and Tyriq Withers (Him).
When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer… and is hell-bent on revenge.
As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.
Robinson co-wrote the script with Sam Lansky, based on an earlier draft by Leah McKendrick (M.F.A.).
Jim Gillespie directed the original I Know What You Did Last Summer, which was written by Kevin Williamson (Scream) and based on Lois Duncan’s novel.
