After a slew of strange videos and the new website MaybrookMissing.net were published online, New Line Cinema has finally given us a teaser trailer for Zach Cregger’s upcoming horror film Weapons. The new trailer looks like sleeker versions of the social media videos, all with stern narration layered over it, trying to understand the strange situation at hand…
The film’s synopsis simply reads, “When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.“
Watch the new teaser:
While the teaser looks sleek in its cinematography, the previously published promo materials were all very raw and almost analog appearance, from home surveillance video footage to an old-school website that looks like it was made by your elderly neighbor. It’s a similar vibe to what Neon created for Longlegs ahead of its release last year. And really, it’s all trying to capture The Blair Witch Project‘s own marketing magic that captured the minds of millions ahead of its 1999 release. While Weapons isn’t necessarily trying to convince us it’s real, the marketing campaign is asking us to give in to the nightmarish fantasy, if only for a moment.
Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, and Cary Christopher star in the new horror film with Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan.
Cregger, who previously wrote and directed the stunning debut feature Barbarian, wrote and directed Weapons. He also produces alongside Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules, with Michelle Morrissey and Josh Brolin executive producing.
Weapons comes to theaters and IMAX on August 8, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
